Everything You Need to Know

Below you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions about Dr. Joshi's practice. If your question is not answered here, or you need further information, please contact Dr. Joshi's team who will be happy to assist. Where the answer to your question depends on individual clinical circumstances, you will be directed to discuss this with Dr. Joshi's team at consultation.

Before Your Appointment
Dr. Joshi treats the full spectrum of obstetric and gynaecological conditions including high risk pregnancy, PCOS, fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy, cervical abnormalities and menopause. For a full list of conditions and whether your concern falls within her practice, Dr. Joshi's team will advise at consultation.
Every healthy woman should see a gynaecologist at least annually for preventive health care and routine screening. In addition, you should seek an appointment promptly if you experience any irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, unusual discharge, difficulty conceiving or any other gynaecological concern. Early assessment leads to better outcomes.
Bring any previous investigation reports, scan results, medical records and a list of current medications. Note down your menstrual history and any symptoms you have been experiencing. Dr. Joshi's team will send you a pre-consultation checklist upon booking.
High Risk Pregnancy
A pregnancy may be considered high risk if you have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disease or heart disease, or if complications arise during pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia, placenta praevia or extreme prematurity. Whether your pregnancy is classified as high risk will be determined at your first consultation with Dr. Joshi.
High risk pregnancies typically require more frequent antenatal visits, additional scans, blood tests and specialist monitoring. The exact monitoring plan will be personalised for your case by Dr. Joshi at your consultation.
In many cases yes. Dr. Joshi is a strong advocate for natural childbirth where it is clinically safe. Whether natural birth is appropriate for your situation will be assessed and discussed with you throughout your pregnancy.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery uses small incisions and a camera to perform gynaecological procedures with minimal trauma. It is suitable for most patients requiring hysterectomy, cystectomy, fibroid removal and fertility surgery. Whether you are a candidate for laparoscopic surgery will be determined at your consultation with Dr. Joshi.
Most patients are discharged within 1–2 days and return to normal activities within 2–4 weeks, significantly faster than open surgery. Your individual recovery timeline will be outlined by Dr. Joshi's team before your procedure.
As with all surgery, risks include bleeding, infection and anaesthetic complications. The risk of complications is lower with laparoscopic techniques than open surgery. Your individual risk profile will be discussed with you in detail before your procedure.
Colposcopy
Colposcopy is an outpatient procedure that examines the cervix, vagina and vulva more closely after an abnormal smear test result. It is not painful and takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Dr. Joshi is BSCCP accredited — the UK standard for colposcopy — and performs both diagnostic and treatment colposcopy.
A speculum is inserted and a colposcope — a magnifying instrument — is used to examine the cervix. A mild solution is applied to highlight any abnormal cells. If abnormal areas are found a small biopsy may be taken. Dr. Joshi's team will explain exactly what to expect at your pre-procedure appointment.
Not all abnormal smear results require treatment. If pre-cancerous cells are identified, treatment options including LLETZ (loop excision) may be recommended. Whether treatment is needed will be determined by your colposcopy results and discussed fully by Dr. Joshi.
PCOS & Menopause
PCOS management depends on your symptoms and whether you are trying to conceive. Options range from lifestyle modification and medication to fertility-enhancing laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Joshi's team will design a personalised management plan at your consultation.
Treatment options include hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal medications and lifestyle advice. The most appropriate treatment for your symptoms and medical history will be discussed with Dr. Joshi at consultation.
Costs & Appointments
A detailed breakdown of consultation and procedure costs will be provided by Dr. Joshi's team before your appointment. All fees are transparent with no hidden charges.
Most major health insurance plans cover gynaecological consultations and procedures. Dr. Joshi's team at Kokilaben Hospital will assist with pre-authorisation and documentation. Contact the team with your insurance details before booking.
